Leprosy: transmission and treatment

Leprosy affects isolated populations cut off from health systems. The disease mainly affects the skin, peripheral nerves, the lining of the upper respiratory tract and the eyes. Those affected suffer from these attacks as from exclusion. According to official figures provided by the 145 countries of the 6 WHO regions, 216,108 cases of leprosy have been recorded worldwide.
