As confirmed a few days ago, during one of the Qatar 2022 World Cup broadcasts, DIRECTV reached an agreement with 1190 Sports to be the first operator to broadcast the matches of the Liga 1 since 2023. This was announced in a brief announcement on the tournament’s official social networks, which was replicated by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).
In this way, the panorama regarding the transmission of the commitments of the highest category of Peruvian football for the coming season begins to clarify, something that has been a concern for fans in recent months.
“We celebrate the distribution alliance with DIRECTV, the first to join this strategic plan whose main objective is to exponentially amplify the excitement and exposure of Peruvian soccer, its clubs and players, reaching more local soccer fans and with the highest quality standards. International in content production and distribution”, stated Hernán Donnari, CEO and Co-founder of 1190 Sports, regarding this first alliance for the transmission of the tournament.
On the other hand, Movistar would continue betting on the GOLPERU signal, which has just renewed eight teams, among which are such important clubs as Alianza Lima, Universitario de Deportes, Cienciano and FBC Melgar.
GOLPERU, which is in a legal battle with the FPF for the broadcasting rights, suffered a severe setback on Thursday of last week, after the Seventh Civil Court issued a precautionary resolution favorable to the FPF that orders “suspend the effects of contracts and/or any legal act related to audiovisual transmission rights, on all soccer matches that have been held by Media Networks Latin American SAC, GOLTV Latin American SAC and Consorcio Fútbol Perú”, operators of the Movistar channel.
That same day, at a press conference, the 8 clubs that refused to join the new channel of the FPF and 1190 Sports reaffirmed their position of extending their ties with the Consorcio Fútbol Perú and expressed their confidence that they will be able to participate in the next edition of the League 1, which starts in January. They also received the backing of SAFAP and the Professional Football Sports Association (ADFP).
What other operator could join the transmission of League 1 in 2023?
A few days ago it emerged that Claro would also be in talks to join the list of operators that will broadcast League 1 from 2023, since the idea is that the new channel of League 1 will be seen by all pay TV services and also by streaming. At the moment, there is nothing official about it.
