Lithuanian MP called on Russia to “return” Smolensk

Seimas deputy Matas Maldeikis responded to the proposal of State Duma deputy Yevgeny Fedorov to withdraw recognition of Lithuania’s independence.

As Maldeikis wrote on social networks, if Moscow cancels the recognition of Lithuanian independence from 1991, then Vilnius will cancel the 1634 Polyanovsky Treaty.

According to the Lithuanian deputy, in this case, it will be possible to demand from Russian President Vladimir Putin “to submit to the authority of Vladislav IV and return all the occupied territories to the Grand Duchy.” Following Maldeikis added: “Smolensk is Lithuania!”.

Recall that the deputy from the party “United Russia” Yevgeny Fedorov proposed cancel the decision of the State Council of the USSR on the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Lithuania, so that the question of the legality of Lithuania’s being in NATO arose.

“Polyanovsky peace” is a peace treaty that ended the Russian-Polish war of 1632-1634. According to him, the Commonwealth retained the Chernigov and Smolensk lands and, thus, Smolensk remained with Lithuania. However, the Commonwealth withdrew troops from Russia, and the King of Poland and the Grand Duke of Lithuania Vladislav IV renounced claims to the Russian throne.
