Iván Duque spoke this Saturday on his last day as President of Colombia and highlighted the progress of his government.
“Thanks to each and every one of the Colombians to whom I profess my deep and eternal gratitude for their support, for their generosity, for their constructive criticism. It has been my greatest honor to be able to serve our country,” he said.

Duque referred to the crisis due to the covid-19 pandemic. “Colombia and the world had to face an unknown virus that in a matter of days forced us to stop and pause even the simplest activities of our daily lives, we are facing the worst crisis that humanity has had in the last 100 years”, said
“We live in lethal uncertainty, and with deep sadness at the farewell of our loved ones (…) But we never lost faith,” he said.

The president also mentioned the progress and challenges in his government. “The crisis has never distracted us and today we can say that we have left important transformations in the country,” he assured.
“We created for young people the most successful youth employment program that our country has had, in which thanks to subsidizing 25% – equivalent to social security – today more than 500 thousand young people have found formal employment for the first time”, Duke added.
In turn, the president spoke about the progress in infrastructure. “We put at the service of Colombians thousands of kilometers of rural roads and improved and paved roads,” he said.
“This was the government of the social revolution“, he pointed out.
Among other topics, he spoke of programs such as VAT refunds, youth and families in action, the policy of peace with legality, the implementation of the peace agreements and the protection of Venezuelan migrants.
