Can Simon Geschke defend the mountain jersey?
In any case, it will be extremely difficult for the 36-year-old from Berlin, who has 19 points. Ag2r’s Bob Jungels is just one point behind (18) and Groupama – FDJ’s Thibaut Pinot (14) is also in for a chance.
In the overall ranking, on the other hand, it is to be expected that tour leader Tadej Pogacar will not let anything burn.

“All-out action” for mountain jerseys: What is important for Geschke now
YESTERDAY AT 14:08
The Slovenian from UAE Team Emirates is in top form, pursuer Jonas Vingegaard (Team Jumbo – Visma) should have a hard time making up ground today.
The 10th stage of the tour live in the ticker:
7.5 km – Bettiol and Zimmermann provided
The two front runners are caught and there are twelve men in front again, 9:25 minutes ahead of the peloton. Kämna would now be the new man in yellow with a lead of a little over 40 seconds!
9 km – Bettiol again, Zimmermann follows
Bettiol breaks away again and Zimmermann follows. The two close together up front while behind them, Kämna leads another quartet of Quinn Simmons, Andreas Leknessund and Luis Leon Sanchez to join the other six.
11 km – Eight leaders
Thomas, Wright and Zimmermann catch up to Bettiol – and shortly afterwards Dylan Van Baarle, Matteo Jorgenson, Simone Velasco and Magnus Cort Nielsen also come up. We have eight leaders 20 seconds ahead of the Kämna group.
15 km – Bettiol expands
Zimmermann and Wright, together with Benjamin Thomas, who is also with one, were already 20 seconds after Bettiol. But now the Italian is 30 seconds ahead again. The largest group with Kämna is now 52 seconds behind and the peloton 9:28 minutes. Virtually, Kämna is just behind the yellow again.
11 miles – Zimmermann and Wright attack, group disintegrates
Bettiol is now 30 seconds ahead of his pursuers – and they tear each other apart. Fred Wright and Georg Zimmermann went to the front, many others are falling behind.
21 km – Kämna virtual in yellow
Bettiol begins the final ascent to the Altiport of Megève 20 seconds ahead of the 24-strong chasing group around Lennard Kämna. And since the main field is now 9:21 minutes behind the Italian, Kämna is now the virtual overall leader of this Tour of France!
25 km – Bettiol first at the intermediate sprint
Alberto Bettiol (EF Education – EasyPost) remains alone at the top. However, the Italian still has less than half a minute advantage over the day’s big group as he now passes the intermediate sprint. The peloton, on the other hand, is now almost nine minutes behind!
4:22 p.m. – Let’s go!
After almost exactly 15 minutes of standstill, we continue. Each group will now be released at the spacing it had before neutralization. So hardly anything changes for the race.
Curious: demonstrators on the route! Protest stops stage
36 km – track blockade – race neutralized!
38 km – 25 seconds for Bettiol
Alberto Bettiol saved almost half a minute. But does the Italian really have a chance of surviving alone against the large group towards the top of the mountain from Megève? By the way: The peloton is now 7:20 minutes behind. If it were over now, Kämna would move up to a minute behind the yellow jersey. But it isn’t.
44 km – Rolland and Wright are caught – Bettiol goes!
Pierre Rolland and Fred Wright are back in the group but now the next one is trying: Alberto Bettiol (EF Education – EasyPost) attacks the lead group in the valley and breaks away alone – a suicide mission?
51 km – Rolland gets next mountain point
Pierre Rolland (B&B Hotels – KTM) sprints against Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious) for the 4th category mountain prize at the Cote de Chatillon-sur-Cluses, taking the one point there is there. The duo sets themselves apart from their companions through the sprint and also pulls through on the descent.
61 km – Five minutes are on the clock
The lead of the leading group increases to more than five minutes. Not much is happening at the moment – also because it is now relatively flat through the valley. We have reached the Arve valley and are soon in Cluses.
3:30 p.m. – Live talk with Jens Voigt on Instagram
72 km – 4 minutes for 25 breakaways
UAE Team Emirates controls the pace in the peloton. The distance to the 25 leaders around Kämna and Zimmermann has increased to four minutes. But Tadej Pogacar and his men can easily afford that.
Because the only one in the leading group who is less than 20 minutes behind in the overall standings is Kämna. And he is already 8:43 minutes behind the yellow jersey.
78 km – Col de Jambaz: Rolland vor Kämna
The 3rd category mountain prize on the Col de Jambaz goes to Pierre Rolland ahead of Lennard Kämna. Two mountain points for the French, one for the German. The advantage over the main field is around 3 minutes.
84 km – The group is standing – with Kämna and Zimmermann!
Kämna and Co. have caught up to the top and the pace in the main field is slowing down – now everyone seems to be satisfied and the leading group of around 20 men can break away. The gap immediately increases to 50 seconds.
89 km – Kämna and Zimmermann in a chasing group
A chasing group has broken away and will probably catch up to the top right away – including the Germans Lennard Kämna (Bora – hansgrohe) and Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert).
Interview with Kämna: That is the plan for the 10th stage
95 km – A new quartet
Dylan van Baarle (Ineos Grenadiers), Pierre Rolland (B&B Hotels – KTM), Luis Leon Sanchez (Bahrain Victorious) and Philippe Gilbert (Lotto Soudal) on his farewell tour – these are the next four attackers who have now torn a gap of ten seconds to have.
98 km – breakaway caught
The leading group has grown again. Lennard Kämna (Bora – hansgrohe) also jumped forward. But the peloton continues to follow with Zug and now ensures the merger again. Echappée terminée!
100 km – Quintet with three B&B professionals
Gougeard now has four companions in Thonon-les-Bains – and two of them are teammates of the Frenchman: Pierre Rolland and Sebastian Schönberger, together with Jakob Fuglsang (Israel – Premier Tech) and Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers), have made the connection to the front. But the quintet is only twelve seconds ahead of the rest.
105 km – 20 seconds for Gougeard
There is still no peace in the peloton. Again and again the attackers are caught – and always there: Lennard Kämna (Bora – hansgrohe). The only one who stays alone in front the whole time, because the peloton slows down again after the attackers have stopped, is Gougeard. The Frenchman has a 20-second lead.
116 km – Gougeard starts Solo
Alexis Gougeard (B&B Hotels – KTM) has broken away from the peloton and is now 10 seconds ahead of the rest on the descent. It certainly won’t be easy today though.
124 km – Latour takes mountains classification
Pierre Latour (TotalEnergies) broke away at the Cote de Chevenoz shortly before the 4th category mountain prize and picked up the one mountain point that was there. Shortly after the evaluation, however, he was asked again.
127 km – Ewan already left behind
Caleb Ewan is already struggling to follow the peloton. The Australian sprinter just fell behind. Today and the coming days are going to be really, really tough for the Lotto Soudal pro.
129 km – Bettiol and Cosnefroy break away
As expected, right at the start of the first climb the attackers are now more fortunate: Benoit Cosnefroy (Ag2r – Citroen) and Alberto Bettiol (EF Education – EasyPost) pull away from the peloton a bit.
136 km – Many attacks, no group
So far it’s mainly been going slightly downhill, and nobody can get away from it. New drivers try again and again, but the peloton keeps rolling together. In five kilometers, however, the ascent to the Cote de Chevenoz (4th category) begins. That’s where the breakaway group of the day should form.
1:47 p.m. – Here we go!
With a little delay due to defects in Dylan Groenewegen (BikeExchange – Jayco) and Benjamin Thomas (Cofidis), things really get going – about three kilometers after kilometer 0. We were there five minutes ago. But now Christian Prudhomme lowers the starting flag and the race is on.
1:30 p.m. – Neutralized start – without 4
We start rolling in Morzine and four men are missing in the peloton: Ben O’Connor (Ag2r Citroen) and Alexis Vuillermoz (TotalEnergies) have decided not to continue on the rest day after their great suffering on Sunday. But there are also two corona cases this morning: Luke Durbridge (BikeExchange – Jayco) and George Bennett (UAE Team Emirates). With Bennett, the second UAE rider on this tour is now canceled due to Corona, after Vegard Stake Laengen.
