Liverpool were forced to swallow their fourth successive defeat at Premier League after being humiliated by Everton 0-2 at Anfield, Saturday (20/2/2021). The Toffees secured the full points thanks to Richarlison’s quick third-minute goal and Gylfi Sidgursson’s penalty in the final 10 minutes of the game.
The tension between Klopp and Ferguson arose as Liverpool claimed a penalty for handball in the first half. Reported LiverpolECHO, Klopp allegedly shouted at coach Carlo Ancelotti’s right hand.
“Why are you laughing?” the German manager burst onto the bench Everton where Ferguson is said to be smiling broadly.
“We are allowed to talk or is it only you Juergen?” Ferguson replied, before Everton senior Seamus Coleman stepped in to defuse the situation.
However, Ferguson and his Everton deserve to have the last laugh. The win marked the Merseyside Blue’s first at home Liverpool in 22 years.
With this result Liverpool dropped to sixth place after collecting 40 points from 25 matches, three points away from Chelsea in the top four. Everton are also in seventh position with 40 points, but have one game remaining.
“We conceded an unnecessary first goal and we shouldn’t forget it. This is an important part of the game. There are two important parts: you have to defend and we have to score goals. In decisive moments, we need to be more calm,” said Klopp over Liverpool smothering Everton.
