The high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, Josep Borrell, accused opponents Leopoldo López and Juan Guaidó of wanting to “dynamite” the electoral observation mission that the bloc will send to the mega-elections.
“The political parties of López and Guaidó, and their representatives in the European Parliament, do not want the mission to be carried out despite the fact that their parties present themselves,” he told EFE.
Borrell indicated that the extracts of a report prepared by the exploratory mission that visited Caracas have been leaked and with which “a scandal has been mounted saying that I have sent the mission against the opinion of those who went there to see, are antiquated ”.
“Everything that worried the technical mission, we have fixed it based on a formal agreement with the Venezuelan government,” he stressed.
On the other hand, its spokesman, Peter Stano, said that the European Union could “withdraw” its mission if the conditions for its presence are no longer met.
“It is not true that the high representative has ignored the experts,” he said and explained that the exploration mission was in summer, but in October the situation was “very fluid.”
