Xiaomi adds two new models of wireless headphones to its catalog, the Redmi Buds 4 and Redmi Buds 4 Pro. Main advantages: active noise reduction (ANC) as standard and great autonomy for a very reasonable price.
To on the occasion of its major autumn conference on October 4, Xiaomi presented many new products from its ecosystem: photo-oriented smartphones, the 12T and 12T Pro, televisions, a robot vacuum cleaner, a connected watch, a tablet, a vacuum cleaner and scrubber, but also new wireless headphones, the Redmi Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro, which benefit from several improvements compared to the models of the previous generation, with an active noise reduction system (ANC, for Active Noise Reduction) as standard, a revised design and better autonomy, all at a still very reasonable price compared to the competition.
Redmi Buds 4 and 4 Pro: significant differences
On the design side, the Buds 4 Pro are clearly inspired by the Buds 3T Pro – the top-of-the-range model of the previous generation –, with their branch directed towards the mouth, while the Buds 4 take up the format of the Buds 3 Pro. Acoustically, the Redmi Buds 4 Pro benefit from a dual speaker system (one 10mm and one 6mm), which allows you to reproduce both deep bass and clear treble, as on hi-fi speakers. More modest, the Redmi Buds 4 have to make do with a single 10 mm transducer. There are also differences in the field of capture since the Buds 4 Pro have three microphones while the Buds 4 only integrate two. A feature that has a direct impact on the active noise reduction function, available as standard on both models: this digital process that attenuates ambient noise reduces up to 35 dB for the Redmi Buds 4, and up to 43 dB for the 4 Pro – which are also equipped with a filter to block out wind noise. Note that they both benefit from a “double transparency” mode, which allows you to keep in touch with those around you for conversations, for example, by avoiding the “bubble of silence” effect which may prove to be unsuitable. even dangerous in some situations.
In addition, the Buds 4 are compatible Bluetooth 5.2 while the Buds 4 Pro take advantage of the new Bluetooth 5.3 standard, and thus offer a latency of only 59 ms. The Redmi 4 Pro also supports 3D audio with head tracking, which simulates sound coming from all directions to create an immersive sound experience. In addition, the Buds 4 Pro supports multipoint mode and LDAC codec, which offers better audio quality than the NASIC SBC.
In a more practical register, Xiaomi has also increased the capacity of the integrated batteries by optimizing the power consumption of its headphones compared to the previous generation. Thus, the Redmi Buds 4 have an autonomy of 30 hours with the case – against 20 hours for the previous model – and 6 hours with a single earphone. According to Xiaomi, five minutes of charging is enough to ensure an hour of listening. For the Pro version, the autonomy goes from 26 to 36 hours with the case – without active noise reduction –, and an earphone allows up to 9 hours of listening. Xiaomi even promises two hours of music for just five minutes of charging. Not bad ! Finally, the two new models are IP54 certified, and are thus protected against dust and splashes.
Available from October 4, these new headphones are offered at very reasonable prices when compared to the competition – this is the advantage of Redmi products: 70 euros for the Buds 4 and 90 euros for the Buds 4 Pro. Note that, for their launch, a reduction of 10 euros is automatically applied for any purchase on the Xiaomi site.
