Among the themes that will be debated from May 3 during the trial between Apple and Epic Games, there is the choice made for the iPhone to prohibit all downloads of apps outside the App Store.. A barrier installed on iOS which contrasts singularly with its absence on Mac where this possibility of choosing its download sources has always existed and continues.
For Epic, which details its various arguments for the court in a document published yesterday, it is by no means a decision based on security considerations towards the user but a strictly political and economic choice. Apple doesn’t want other stores where users would potentially go to buy apps.
In its own argumentApple, on the contrary, plays this card of increased security for iPhone customers, and even considers that this restriction is a guarantee of competition between iOS and Android.
