Maduro: the Revolution has dignified indigenous peoples

In the framework of the commemoration of the 529 years of the Indigenous Resistance, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, received this Tuesday in Miraflores the native peoples who marched to honor the day of heroic resistance.

During the event, he greeted the 37 indigenous peoples of the country who continue to actively resist their historical struggle and assured that the Miraflores Palace belongs to the people of Venezuela and to the indigenous peoples. “Today we celebrate the fight against colonialism and defend the dignity of our peoples,” said the head of state.

“The revolution has dignified the peoples, Venezuela has an Indian people that highlights the commitment to the Fatherland,” he said while recalling that October 12 was celebrated on Columbus Day, paying tribute to the murderers and genociders of the world, “forgetting that they were murderers who came to break the peace of the native peoples of America,” said the President.

He stressed that in Europe a debate has been activated to recognize the genocide claiming colonialism that a fascist current has re-emerged to attack the humble peoples.

He asked the King of Spain to apologize to America for the genocide against our native peoples, “Spain sooner rather than later, will have to recognize that there were 300 years of crimes against our indigenous peoples. A barbarous stage of colonialism ».

He announced that Venezuela will propose to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) the creation of a Truth Commission that establishes the historical truth of 300 years of European colonialism in American lands.

«It is an offense for all of America that the King of Spain still celebrates October 12 as a supposed day of civilization, that is why we join the voices that have been raised to demand that the King of Spain apologize to America for the genocide perpetrated in these lands ”.

Similarly, he instructed the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, to form a Truth Commission with historians in order to reconstruct the entire history of what colonialism was. “We have to advance conscientiously and properly before the new empires of the north,” said Maduro.

He called for the education, work, land, production and literacy of indigenous communities to be strengthened.
