Maharashtra Crisis | Eknath Shinde sworn in as Maharashtra Chief Minister; Devendra Fadnavis Deputy Chief Minister

Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde took oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. BJP leader and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari administered the oath in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. Shinde took over as the 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra after much drama and rebellion.

Eknath Shinde seized power in Maharashtra after overthrowing the Mahavikas Aghadi coalition government led by Uddhav Thackeray for two and a half years. Shinde, who was in Goa with dissident MLAs, along with Fadnavis reached Mumbai this afternoon and met the governor and raised his claim to form the government. Everyone thought Fadnavis would be the Chief Minister and Shinde the Deputy Chief Minister.

But unexpectedly, Fadnavis Shinde announced that he will become the Chief Minister. Cabinet expansion will take place in the next few days. Fadnavis initially announced that he would not be a part of the government, but he was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister through the intervention of the national leadership.
