Mahou Shoujo Site (Magical Girl Site) is a popular dark fantasy manga that was adapted into an anime during the season of Spring-2018 (April-June), but since then there have been no updates. Or that is what the fans thought, since the author of the original work, Kentarou Satou shared an update (now removed) where, in fact, announced that the project would have a second season:
- «[Importante Anuncio] It has been decided that “Mahou Shoujo Site” will have a second season. Thank you all for your support! Please continue to support Aya-chan until her final battle. Thanks a lot!“, he wrote on his Twitter account.
However, a few hours after its publication and while fans continued to celebrate this news, the author threw a bucket of cold water on them telling them it was an April Fools’ prank:
- «Sorry, that was an April Fools joke. This second season is not something that I can decide on my own, it is something that depends on the production side and many other circumstances, but since the anime adaptation aired, the recognition of the original manga has increased considerably through of a growing number of fans, so maybe it will be a reality in the future. I also thought, when that happens, let’s all rejoice together. 2023 will be the 10th anniversary of the serialization of “Mahou Shoujo Site” and the 5th anniversary of the anime, so I will prepare something special. This is not a joke, wait for it», he wrote again.
And finally he apologized to the fans for his bad joke:
- «I deleted both the April Fools joke and the explanation because it kept causing misunderstandings. Sorry for the confusion. It was a day when I realized that many fans are still waiting for a sequel to the anime, and I feel extremely grateful to all of you.».
Kentarou Satou began publishing the manga through the magazine Champion Tap! from the publisher Akita Shoten in July 2013, and finished it in August 2019 with a total of sixteen compiled volumes. A twelve-episode anime adaptation was produced by the studios Production doA and aired during the season of Spring-2018 (April-June).

Every day, Aya Asagiri thinks about committing suicide. At her school she is relentlessly bullied, and at her home, her older brother Kaname physically abuses her to ease the academic stress her father is putting on him. One night, while she is awake wishing she would die, a mysterious website called the Magical Girl Site appears on her laptop, which promises to give her magical powers. At first, she dismisses it as a creepy prank, but when she finds a magic gun in her shoe cabinet the next day, she doesn’t know what to believe. She decides to take her away and soon runs into her thugs again. But this time, desperate for something to save her, she uses the gun and her assailants are transported to a nearby railroad crossing, where they are run over.
Aya’s consciousness is unable to process the fact that she killed two of her classmates with magic, and she desperately tries to understand the situation. However, when she finds herself in trouble again, she is saved by Tsuyuno Yatsumura, a classmate who can use magic to stop time. This duo has a lot to do: not only do they have to fight together and against other magical girls, but they must also discover the truth behind the website and the apocalyptic event known as “The Tempest” that will soon occur.
