The firefighters used several turntable ladders to fight the fire, which, according to the fire department, broke out on the roof of a seven-story building on Holstenwall. The fire was under control and largely extinguished by early evening. An area of about 20 by 30 meters had burned on the roof. Parts of the roof were in danger of collapsing in the meantime.

Neighboring hotels evacuated

The part of the building affected by the fire was being renovated and was therefore uninhabited. The fire may have started during tar work on the roof. A construction worker complained about health problems after the excitement and was taken to a hospital, the fire department said in the evening. But the fire didn’t hurt anyone. The fire brigade was able to prevent the fire from spreading to two neighboring hotels. 25 hotel guests were evacuated.
