Yesterday, Major General Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police, inaugurated the “Drugs… A Painful End” forum as part of the activities of the International Day to Combat Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, which falls on June 26 of each year.

Brigadier Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, Director of the Directorate of Anti-Narcotics in the Criminal Security Sector, confirmed that Abu Dhabi Police constantly continues its efforts to enhance the vision of rational leadership through the concept of “security is everyone’s responsibility”, in cooperation with strategic partners and teamwork, which has contributed to achieving continuous successes in controlling gangs. drugs.

He revealed the most prominent results that have been achieved recently through the significant decline in the category of drug abusers of adolescents under the age of 18 years.

For his part, Boris Znamnicki, Deputy Regional Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in the Gulf Cooperation Council states, said global reports indicate that the drug trade is still in continuous growth and prosperity.

For her part, Laila Al-Hayas, Director of the Monitoring and Social Innovation Sector at the Department of Community Development, reviewed the system of prevention of drug abuse throughout the life of the individual, focusing on the causes of abuse and factors affecting the vulnerability to abuse and international prevention efforts.

For his part, Dr. Anas Mahmoud Fikri, Acting Director of the Department of Public Health and Research at the National Rehabilitation Center presented a working paper on the pathological and economic burden of psychotropic substance abuse disorders.. He pointed out that drugs affect addicts and their friends, families and communities, but the effects of addiction go far beyond that globally to interfere with it. Economic factors, for example, require us to reconsider the methods of combating them.
