Manchester City, the English Premier League champions, announced today, Wednesday, the cancellation of a friendly match that it was planning to play in France before the start of the new season against Troyes due to quarantine measures in Britain.
According to the instructions of the British government, “every arrival from France to England must enter the quarantine for ten days at home or any other place of residence, even if they have received full vaccination doses against Covid-19.”
“The two clubs discussed all possible ways to hold the match but the recent changes made by the British government to quarantine rules for travelers returning from France have made it very difficult to overcome the required restrictions,” City said.
Manchester City are disappointed to confirm that our planned pre-season friendly at fellow CFG club ES Troyes AC has been cancelled.

The newly promoted Troyes Club of the French Ligue 1 is under the banner of City Group owned by Emirati authorities, which also includes New York City, a competitor in the American League and Girona of Spain.
City’s first team will now continue its pre-season preparations in Manchester and there are no plans to make up for the canceled friendlies.
City will play second-tier Preston North End friendly behind closed doors on July 27, before the Community Shield play at Wembley against FA Cup winners Leicester City on August 7.
It is noteworthy that Manchester City, the English club, won the competition last season 2020/2021, by a large margin of points from its rival, Manchester United, who came second in the standings of the competition.
Manchester City was crowned champion after scoring 86 points, while Manchester United came second with 74 points, Liverpool came third with 69 points, and Chelsea fourth with 67 points.
