The MEP and Mayor of Anthisnes, Marc Tarabella, who was charged with corruption, money laundering, and participation in a criminal organization in the case of corruption of the European Parliament by Morocco and Qatar, left Marche prison on Thursday morning. He had spent six weeks in detention in Saint-Gilles prison and was later transferred to Marche-en-Famenne prison after requesting to be closer to his family. Marc Tarabella thanked everyone who showed him support during his ordeal and stated that he had nothing to reproach himself for. The Brussels indictments chamber allowed Marc Tarabella to be detained under the modality of the electronic bracelet. Marc Tarabella is charged in the investigation by the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office into alleged acts of corruption within the European Parliament. Several individuals have also been charged in this case, including Pier Antonio Panzeri, former MEP and founder of the NGO Fight Impunity; Eva Kaili, the former vice-president of the European Parliament, and her companion Francesco Giorgi.

After six weeks of detention in Saint-Gilles prison, Marc Tarabella was transferred to Marche-en-Famenne prison, after requesting to be closer to his family. “I am relieved to be able to join my family. This period was a real ordeal. I would like to thank all the people who have shown me their support during all these weeks,” he said. “I repeat: I have nothing to reproach myself for and I remain of course at the entire disposal of the investigators if they have any other questions,” he added.
