Masks: new guidelines from the Ministry of Health for use – Health

Through Resolution 350 of 2022, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection established modifications in the biosafety guidelines, taking into account thea non-compulsory use of masks in open spaces in territories with coverage greater than 70% in complete vaccination schemes.

The regulations seek to adopt the general biosafety protocol for all economic, social, cultural activities and public administration sectors.

It is important to keep in mind that in closed spaces the use of the mask is mandatory. What’s more, “The permanent use of the surgical mask is recommended in people with comorbidities, respiratory conditions, as well as in unvaccinated people”, Vice Minister Escobar added.

The correct use of the mask includes covering the nose and mouth. It is essential to avoid contagion to remove the mask avoiding contact with contaminated areas or dispersion of the infectious agent.

It is also important to adjust the mask, if it has elastic, behind the ears. If it is strappy, it should be tied above the ears at the back of the head and the straps below, below the ears and above the neck.

It is also indicated that in bars and restaurants in closed spaces, the mask must be removed only to eat and drink, the remaining time must be covering the mouth and nose.

“This allows us to deepen the recovery of our social and cultural life, which was so affected during the pandemic.”, asserted the vice-health.

The content also includes self-care measures focused on mental health care, hand washing and hygiene, physical distancing, use of masks, adequate ventilation, cleaning and disinfection, waste management, as well as risk communication and health care.
