The 18-year-old spoke with Mega Noticias regarding the diagnosis he had and the complications he would have suffered if he had undergone chemotherapy. Now, together with his mother, they seek to bring the same treatment that he had to national soil.

At the age of 14, Máximo Menem Bolocco received a diagnosis that left him and his mother, Cecilia Bolocco, with their souls on a thread: the young man suffered from a complicated brain tumor.

In order to find optimal treatment, he and his mother moved to the United States to try a new medical method to fight cancer: proton treatment. Thus, thanks to new technology, the young was able to deal with the disease.

As explained by the Mayo Clinic On its website, this treatment, also called proton therapy, “is a type of radiotherapy,” which “uses high-energy beams to treat tumors.”

“My tumor was so rare that there was no procedure”explained to mega news Menem Bolocco, assuring that originally in Chile he had been given the option to undergo chemotherapy, albeit fraught with complications.

“I was going to have a two-year chemotherapy treatment, where I was not going to be able to see anyone. A radiotherapy, but almost without survival ”, he remembered.

Due to those complications of the traditional treatment, Menem recalled that “my mother was told that I was going to stay the size I was (then), which was 1.71; Today I am 1.83”.

They also assured him that with the treatment there were chances of going blind, as well as hearing problemsHowever, today it does not suffer any of these possible consequences.

Now, four years after that difficult 2018, Nemen comments that, together with his mother, they created the Care Foundation, which has the challenge of creating a cancer center in which proton therapy can be implemented, which the young man of now 18 could receive years in Chile.

According to Menem, the idea of ​​bringing proton therapy has the goal that “all children born here and in South America also have the possibility that I had to be able to continue with a good life and without limits”.

Last Thursday, the foundation created by the former Miss Universe held the International Care Seminarwhich would address topics on the fight and investment against cancer.
