The McLaren F1 will carry Ayrton Senna’s iconic name and logo on F1 cars from this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.
Ayrton Senna is most famously remembered for his success with the McLaren F1 team and has won all three F1 World Champions in the golden age of “McLaren Honda”.
Even after Ayrton Senna died at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, the Williams F1 team, which Senna was driving at the time, continued to put his name and the famous Senna-S on the front of the car.
However, prior to the 2022 F1 season, the Williams F1 team chose to remove the Ayrton Senna brand from the car.
At the 2022 F1 car launch of Williams F1, team principal Jost Capito said the new owner of the Williams F1 team would like to change the way Ayrton Senna is honored.
“It was a decision we wanted to move forward in the future,” said Jost Capito.
“We have entered a new era and have a new machine. We have also refurbished the museum. There is a special area to celebrate Ailton.”
“I think we have to look to the future rather than not seeing an” S “every time the driver gets in the car and reminding us of what happened.”
“It’s time for the team to move on, pay tribute to Senna, and set up a very dedicated space in the museum to honor him.”
Meanwhile, from the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix, the McLaren F1 team chose to continue to respect Ayrton Senna’s name and added the Senna logo to the side of the car’s halo.
In a short video released by the McLaren F1 team on Friday morning, McLaren revealed in honor of Icelon Senna how happy it was to name it.
“It’s an honor to be named Ayrton Senna since the Monaco Grand Prix.”
“His courage, dedication, and ingenuity continue to set the standard for our team to this day.”
The addition of the name Ayrton Senna is fully supported by the charity Senna Foundation.

Ayrton Senna drove McLaren from 1988 to 1993 and won the F1 World Champion in 1988, 1990 and 1991. He won 35 times from 96 starts with the McLaren F1 team and won his final F1 victory with the team at the 1993 Australian Grand Prix.
