McLaren will only upgrade Lando Norris at the F1 Singapore GP, but teammate Daniel Ricciardo says there is nothing wrong.
The new upgrade package includes new floors and sidepods, but priority will be given to Lando Norris in Singapore and to Daniel Ricciardo next weekend in Japan.
Daniel Ricciardo, who is set to leave McLaren this season, said the team was unable to prepare enough parts for both cars this weekend, while Lando Norris remains in the team for 2023. I have to learn as much as I can for , so I admitted that I was given the first challenge.
“Land got it,” commented Daniel Ricciardo.
“It’s just a matter of time and resources. In the end there will be two cars in Japan, but only him this weekend.”
“And the next question, why him, a lot of it is development and direction for 2023. Pretty much.”
“Of course he’ll be here next year, but I’m not. The final reason is that he gets another weekend to give feedback to the team and clarify the direction for next year.”
Daniel Ricciardo has downplayed suggestions that he will not be available as he is leaving McLaren at the end of the season.
“He’ll get the update this weekend, and as far as I know, I’ll have exactly the same as him in Japan.”
“Of course it’s a step forward and there may be more… but I think this is the last update. I think we’ll be fighting the same thing as Japan until the end of the season.”
“Again, if there’s one part that looks to 2023, it’s probably what he’ll have, but I think it’s probably only this weekend that makes a difference. ”
Daniel Ricciardo believes that heading into the weekend with an unmodified car would be more beneficial than adapting to new parts.
“Normally that’s what you want. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not as simple as bolting it on and making it tenths of a second faster.”
“I hope it’s faster in a way, because it means Japan is better. But let’s see. But again, it’s a familiar package for me. So it’s not a bad thing. Time. will solve it
