Meal vouchers: here is what will change concerning them

Whether it’s cards, checks or even Tickets restaurant, some changes are to be expected. They aim to improve the purchasing power of the French. In fact, these are therefore positive changes who were taken. Here is all you need to know. We’ll explaine everything here.

A new ceiling for restaurant tickets

For a few years now, the regulation of Restaurant Tickets has been somewhat toughened. Nevertheless, here is now a new relaxation. Indeed, all restaurant vouchers will see their daily ceiling change. Whether for restaurants, hotels or even shopping, it will now be possible to spend on a daily limit of 25 euros. A ceiling still higher than the 19 euros current.

The possibilities of use

If currently, it is possible to use Restaurant Tickets to pay for a restaurant as well, a sandwich or a meal. It will now be possible to also pay for groceries. However, even if we can already buy a supermarket, there are still some products that are said to be ineligible for these meal vouchers. Especially pastries or unprocessed meats. Thus, it is necessary really pay attention to the products that one chooses if one does not wish to be recalibrated once in question.

We can also notice that on the receipts, there are products with TRD next to them. This acronym means that the product is eligible for Restaurant Tickets. Yet until the end of 2023, it is all the races that will be possible to pay with restaurant vouchers. Of course respecting the daily spending limit.

Restaurant vouchers sometimes difficult to identify

Indeed, if many products were not eligible for Restaurant Tickets, it is for a simple reason. These are supposed to encourage employees to spend their meal vouchers in restaurants or bakeries. But the restaurant’s biggest competitor remains homemade cooking. That’s why it didn’t seem allowed to buy rice or unprocessed meat. But now all that changes.

But the state also saw a personal gain in it. Indeed, in a restaurant VAT is 10b whereas for the vast majority of retail food products, this drops to 5,5%. It is therefore more beneficial to the State if money is still spent on catering rather than on supermarkets. Moreover, parliamentarians would have liked the maximum face value of restaurant tickets to increase to 15 euros. But the Minister of the Economy got there opposite lack of means.

A redistribution of shares

Thus on restaurant tickets and other titles, the employer does not pay social security contributions and this does not seem to be taxed on taxable income. It is thus a real shortfall for the state and the Social Security of raise the maximum limit.

Although this argument on Restaurant Tickets is understandable, the ceiling is far from keeping up with the rate of inflation. In fact, in five years restaurant tickets have taken on a value of 5,7 % even though the prices have them increased by a good 10%. So it’s not very fair.
