Medellín Marathon: this is the fatality that left the race – Medellín – Colombia

More than 17,000 people attended the Medellín Marathon this Sunday morning, a renowned city race that this year had the 5K, 10K, 21K and 42K categories.

However, what was a quiet sporting event, it ended in tragedy. Jorge Andrei Valencia, one of the marathon participants, lost his life.

According to witnesses, the 34-year-old he collapsed in the middle of the road when he was in the vicinity of the EPM building.

There he was helped by Prehospital Care (APH) personnel, who transferred him to the General Hospital of Medellín, where he arrived without vital signs. Despite efforts to revive him, nothing could be done.

Apparently, the cause of Jorge Andrei’s death was cardiorespiratory arrest. However, the Legal Medicine report is awaited.

Jorge Andrei worked as a Financial Planning and Evaluation Professional for the Medellin Metro, entity that lamented the death of its worker in social networks.

According to the man’s profile on the linkedin social network, he graduated as a financial engineer from the University of Medellín and did a specialization and a master’s degree in Finance at Eafit University.

In addition, he had been a ‘godfather’ at the Medellin Animal Protection Society for more than 10 years.

Unfortunately, this is not the first death recorded in this competition. A similar case occurred in 2018, when the university professor Juan Camilo Arboleda passed away after completing the Half Marathoncorresponding to 21 km.
