Tourist nights in classified accommodation establishments in the city of Meknes fell by 69pc at the end of November 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year.
A total of 73,541 overnight stays were recorded during the first eleven months of 2020, compared to 235,487 overnight stays during the same period of 2019, according to data from the National Tourism Observatory (ONT).
As for arrivals in classified hotels, they reached 48,448 at the end of November 2020, against 154,859 during the same period of the previous year, a decrease of 69pc.
The average length of stay during this period was two days, the same as in 2019, notes the ONT.
This variation is mainly due to the drop recorded by the main source markets, including Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Italy, France and Belgium.
The month of November saw a decrease of 72pc compared to the same month of the year 2019, with a total of 6,925 overnight stays. The number of operational rooms during this period was 1,241 units, of which 638 were 4-star, 415 3-star and 120 were 2-star.
In 2019, the number of tourist nights in classified accommodation establishments in the city of Meknes had increased by 4pc compared to 2018.
The Meknes prefecture has 76 classified tourist establishments with a bed capacity of 4,083 beds.
According to the prefectural delegation of tourism in Meknes, eleven tourist units with a total investment of MAD 193.1 million are in progress. Projects which represent a bed capacity of 1,042 beds.
