“I was born elsewhere, but I came into the world in Paris …” said the elegant lady from Saint-Germain-des-Prés, who died on September 23. With her unruly and memorable voice, Juliette Gréco loved to interpret the texts of poets and sing about her love for Paris.
A sound, a tone, a timbre. Clear, piercing, delicate, each voice, unique, says what words do not say. It is also part of a historical and geographical context: expressing itself with the words of its time, it takes the accent of the places which cross it. Series Memorable Voices draws from the archives of RFI and its participatory platform www.ecouterlemonde.net to compose soundscapes of voices from around the world.
Juliette Gréco’s testimony is taken from the show Bandwidth of 3 July 2012.
