Mental health files… are increasing

– Mood and anxiety disorders are the most frequently visited clinics in care centers

Health sources revealed to Al-Rai that the average number of new files opened for them in the Kuwait Center for Mental Health has increased, due to the increased awareness of these diseases, the effects related to the conditions of the Corona pandemic, and the increase in the population in Kuwait.

The sources confirmed that the three factors coincide with the Ministry’s keenness to expand mental health clinics in primary health care centers, which amounted to 38 clinics in various primary care centers, which contributed to raising awareness of these diseases and thus increasing the files.

She pointed out that the average of new files in the Kuwait Center for Mental Health exceeds the barrier of 2000 files annually, although this number is subject to change, increase or decrease, from year to year, noting that the new files are mostly for patients suffering from chronic mental illnesses, such as bipolar or schizophrenia or Depression.

In the same context, the sources indicated that mood and anxiety disorders represent the most frequent visits to mental health clinics in primary care centers, and are the most common in society, with a rate of 30 percent.
