Leo Messi wants to leave Barça. The Argentine star told FC Barcelona on Tuesday that he wants to leave the club now. Messi sent a burofax to the Barça club to activate the clause that allowed him to leave Barcelona at the end of each season.
Messi had time to activate this clause until June 31, when the campaign was scheduled to end, but he considers that he can make use of it now, with which he understands that his termination of 700 million euros remains without effect. However, Barça considers Messi to be automatically renewed until June 30, 2021, so it defends that its clause is in force.
Messi and Barça could therefore engage in a legal battle after altering the season calendar, which due to the coronavirus pandemic ended two months behind schedule.
At Barcelona since he was 13 years old, Rosario’s crack has won 34 titles during his career at the club of his life, including 10 leagues and four Champions League titles. The humiliation suffered in the Champions League against Bayern (2-8), his disagreements with Josep Maria Bartomeu and the club’s decision to dispense with his best friend in the locker room, Luis Suárez, have been fundamental for Messi to want to leave righ now.
Although Messi could hope to leave in 2021, Manchester City and Inter sound like the most likely destinations for Messi, fed up with continuing at Barcelona, when the club is going through the most serious sporting, economic and institutional crisis in its history.
