Lionel Messi will not move to Manchester City or Juventus, says Rivaldo. The Barcelona superstar is supported to retire as a one-club man at Camp Nou.
Those in Catalonia have seen unwanted initial talks about their talismanic captain.
Amid reports that Messi was disillusioned with life in Barca, it was suspected that he might be tempted to reunite with Pep Guardiola in England or mate with eternal rival Cristiano Ronaldo in Italy.
Rivaldo doubts a deal will be made, and the Blaugrana legend expects the current round of rumors to pass.
He said Betfair: “I am not buying speculation about a possible change from Lionel Messi from Barcelona at the end of the season.
“To be honest, I think he will end his career at Camp Nou. He has been one of us since he was 14 years old. He has a great affection for the club and the club for him, so I don’t think he would benefit if he left.
“I see him as a player in only one club, like Francesco Totti at AS Roma or Rogerio Ceni at Sao Paulo.
“It is hard to imagine Messi playing Barca in the Champions League. Even if he leaves in the future, I imagine him outside Europe, in China or in the MLS, because he is motivated for financial rather than sporting reasons.
“He has not scored in his last three games and many commentators say that the problem in the club is the main reason for this after Messi’s criticism of Eric Abidal.
“But I don’t see it that way and think Messi will meet again soon. The team won again, as we saw last weekend when they beat Real Betis 3-2.
“Messi has given his teammates two templates, which is important because he plays a central role in Barca’s attack. His fit skills are crucial to get good chances. Its class is undeniable, so I see no need to worry. “
Rivaldo added that the landing sites for Messi will be discussed when facing a new challenge: “Manchester City is one of the clubs associated with Messi.
“The Argentine attacker could play in any club in the world, but as Pep Guardiola said recently, Messi should continue in Barcelona.
“Other rumors mention Juventus as another possible club for Messi and there he could enter into a wonderful partnership with Cristiano Ronaldo. That seems highly unlikely.
“Yes, it would be a pleasure to see two big players playing together, but I don’t see it as a realistic move.”
