MEXICO CITY, Jan 26 (Archyde.com) – Grupo Financiero Inbursa, owned by tycoon Carlos Slim, would seek to become involved in the process of selling the consumer banking business of US giant Citigroup in Mexico if it sees “conditions and possible synergies,” it said on Wednesday. a bank manager.

“We will be waiting to see how it happens and what they are trying to sell, we will be following the process,” said Inbursa’s Director of Investor Relations, Frank Aguado, in a conference with analysts after his financial report for the fourth quarter of 2021. .

Analysts have identified Inbursa, as well as Grupo Financiero Banorte, as the strongest local players to bid for Citigroup’s assets for sale in Mexico, which seeks to focus its efforts on global wealth, payments and loans.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said after Citigroup’s announcement that he would like Citibanamex to remain in Mexican hands.
