Tropical storm Grace reached the Mexican Caribbean coast on Thursday. The storm was accompanied by heavy rains that led to floods. Trees and street signs were blown down, there were power outages. According to the authorities, there was no serious damage to the resorts on the coast. There were also no reports of injuries. Some hotels in the region had previously been evacuated. The hotel guests were taken to emergency shelters. The National Hurricane Center in Miami announced that Grace was expected to hit the coast of Veracruz state as a hurricane on its way west on late Friday. Warnings were given about dangerous storm surges. The Mexican authorities said that military and rescue workers had been mobilized. Grace had caused heavy rains and floods in Haiti and Jamaica earlier this week.
