Minister Petra De Sutter’s Christmas present: 20 days of birth leave for dads and civil servants

The number of days of leave authorized for dads or co-parents for a birth will increase to 15 days in 2021 and 20 in 2023.

Green Deputy Prime Minister Petra De Sutter wants to imprint the mark of progressivism on the public service. As of January 1, 2021, federal officials whose partner gives birth to a child will be entitled to 15 days of birth leave. This concerns men, co-parents, including the co-mother, or even people with proof of partnership. The increase in the number of days of birth leave will continue during the legislature.
