The Minnesota Timberwolves made Anthony Edwards the # 1 pick of the 2020 NBA Draft. The Golden State Warriors grabbed a center at position 2, LaMelo Ball fell to the Charlotte Hornets.
There was a lot of trade speculation in the hours leading up to the draft, and the Timberwolves allegedly still had trade talks a few minutes before the draft officially started. But in the end Minnesota decided to strike in first place and chose Anthony Edwards.
“I’m just blessed to be in this situation,” said the overwhelmed Edwards in the subsequent interview. In Minnesota he will now fight for the playoffs alongside Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell.
The 19-year-old played a year at college in Georgia and averaged 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists. With a height of 1.96 meters and a weight of 102 kilograms, he has the best prerequisites for the NBA, Edwards is an excellent scorer, but he brings with him question marks when he is hired. In second place, the Golden State Warriors decided on center James Wiseman, who should immediately reinforce the thin front court of the Dubs. The LaMelo Ball, which was traded as the top pick for a long time, was therefore in position 3, and the Charlotte Hornets did not miss this opportunity.
NBA Draft 2020: Killian Hayes zu den Detroit Pistons
Killian Hayes, who played for ratiopharm Ulm in the German basketball league last season, left the board in 7th position. The Guard secured the Detroit Pistons, who pecked three times in the first round after several trades.
The Sacramento Kings may well have staked the draft. They struck at position 12 at Guard Tyrese Haliburton, who was traded significantly higher by many experts.
