Miss Governor Season 2: Release Date, Cast, & Cancellation News

by Omar El Sayed - World Editor

The fate of “Miss Governor,” the Netflix sitcom formerly known as “She the People,” remains uncertain as the streaming platform weighs a potential second season. The show, created by Tyler Perry and Niya Palmer, debuted in two parts in 2025, with the initial eight episodes launching on May 22nd and a subsequent eight episodes arriving on August 14th.

“Miss Governor” centers on Antoinette Dunkerson, portrayed by Terri J. Vaughn, Mississippi’s first Black lieutenant governor. The series explores the challenges Dunkerson faces as she adjusts to her new political role while navigating the scrutiny of the media and the complexities of her family life. The show aims to blend political satire with family comedy, tackling themes of systemic racism, gender dynamics, and Southern politics.

However, critical reception has been mixed. As of March 12, 2026, the show holds a 4.8/10 rating on IMDb based on 885 user reviews, and a 50% “Tomatometer” score on Rotten Tomatoes with fewer than 50 ratings. This lukewarm response is likely contributing to the delay in a renewal decision, according to sources familiar with the production.

The cast includes Jade Novah as Shamika Latavia Latoya Farrah Dunkerson, Drew Olivia Tillman as Lola Dunkerson, Tré Boyd as Titus Dunkerson, Dyon Brooks as Basil Henderson, Jo Marie Payton as Cleo Dunkerson, and Robert Craighead as Governor Erwin Harper. Recurring cast members include Tony Robinette as Henry Clatterbuck, Kevin Thoms as Jed Bonds, Karon Riley as Michael Davies, Denise Boutte as Kelly Thompson, and Tequilla Whitfield as Pamela Jackson.

Netflix has not officially cancelled the show, but a decision regarding a second season has not been announced. The production company, Tyler Perry Studios, has remained silent on the matter. The show’s executive producers include Tyler Perry, Niya Palmer, Keisha Lance Bottoms, Terri J. Vaughn, and Tina Gordon.

Currently, all 16 episodes of “Miss Governor” are available for streaming exclusively on Netflix. No other streaming platforms or television networks carry the series. A trailer for the first season is available on YouTube.
