Fred McGriff was elected to Hall of Fame unanimously, through the votes of the Veterans Committee, this December 4. The slugger with experience of 19 seasons in the MLB, was close to 500 home runs and was also champion with the Atlanta Braves in 1995.

“What an honor. It’s a beautiful night in Tampa, and I finally made it, I got in there.” McGriff stated during a video conference held shortly after the announcement, reviewed by the New York Times. “I have been totally blessed my entire life and I continue to be blessed. It is a great honor to be elected to the Hall of Fame. I want to thank the committee. I know it’s hard to decide who to vote for.” explained.

After spending 10 years on Hall of Fame ballots, in his first year of eligibility by the Committee he was elected by the voters. In an era when his strength was dwarfed by multiple players who used banned substances, the slugger maintains that his work prevailed.
