MLB: Reds and Astros announce major pitching change

The Reds have announced the rookie pitcher acquisition of the Astros, Brandon Bailey in exchange for cash. Additionally, they also received Minor League right arm Freddy Medina as part of the pending deal when the Astros received left-handed reliever Brooks Raley from Cincinnati.

Aside from those pair of exchanges with Houston, the Reds added Vladimir Gutierrez, Riley O’Brien and Jared Solomon to their roster of 40. All are now protected from selection in next month’s Rule 5 Draft. Cincinnati’s 40-man roster is now 36 players.

After four years pitching in the minor leagues, Brandon Bailey was blessed with luck after Dusty Baker debuted him in 2020 with his Astros.

Even though he could only throw just over seven innings, he did well, eventually posting a 2.45 ERA in five games when he came out of the bullpen. Now with the Reds, his role as a reliever is expected to continue.
