It was decided to produce the TV animation episode 15 “Kukurusu Doan no Shima” of “Mobile Suit Gundam” (First Gundam) broadcast in 1979 as a movie version animation. Episode 15 is also known as an episode in which “Atypical Zaku” appears, and in the movie version, it is also talked about the appearance of MS-06F Doan’s exclusive Zaku (Doan Zaku), which is a refinement of the irregular Zaku. The 15th episode of First Gundam, which was the basis of the movie “Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucrus Doan’s Island,” is a legend that depicts the melancholy of war through the interaction between the main character Amuro Ray and the hostile Zeon deserter Doan. It’s an episode. A unique story has become a legend and has been handed down to fans. There is another reason why the episode became a legend. It’s a drawing collapse. At the time of the production of First Gundam, due to the schedule, I outsourced it to an outside studio, so Zaku II was slender and the “nose” was long, so the drawing was not stable.
In the movie version, Doan Zaku was refined as “Atypical Zaku”. The aircraft that Kukurus Doan was on board when he was leading the Southern Cross Corps of the Principality of Zeon, escaped during the Earth invasion operation, so he recovered parts from the aircraft of the opponent he defeated and used them himself. The aircraft was being repaired and refurbished. Some of the armor remains peeled off, and there are many asymmetrical parts. The variant Zaku was created by the collapse of the drawing, but by overwriting the settings, the reason for the variant is clarified. It is said that the design was born because not only the fans but also the staff had a love for the unusual Zaku.
“There was a story saying,’Doanzaku must be atypical!’, But that was just a collapse of the drawing. At that time, I saw it in the rush and it was blown away. Hajime Katoki of mechanical design is also atypical. I strongly insisted, but I resisted, but everyone followed Katoki-san. I didn’t have that kind of thing. “But I can’t fight unless I have Heat Hawk.”
◇ The MS game is a little bit of a gangster movie
Because Doanzak had a weapon, the movie version became attractive with dynamic images like a sword fight movie.
