According to the latest report from Public Health France, unveiled this Friday, 2,673 confirmed cases of monkey pox have been reported in France. The largest number of cases are in Île-de-France.

According to the situation in France, almost half of the cases are concentrated in Île-de-France since 895 infected have been identified. In Occitania, Public Health France noted 236 cases, while 205 were counted in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 162 in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, 117 in Hauts-de-France or 104 in New Aquitaine .

If other regions are still far enough from crossing the hundred mark, Public Health France indicates however that “the region of residence was not informed for 720 cases, and 10 cases reside abroad”.
The average age of adult cases is 36 years old, “25% of adult cases are under 30 years old and 25% are between 43 and 77 years old,” the statement said. Of the total cases, 28 are female adults and 2 are children, so the rest of the cases are male adults.
A preventive vaccination
To deal with the spread of monkeypox, the High Authority for Health contacted by the Directorate General for Health recommended on July 7, “that preventive vaccination be offered to the groups most exposed to the virus”.
The main concerned are “men who have sex with men and have multiple sexual partners, trans people with multiple sexual partners, sex workers and professionals in places of sexual consumption”.
“Currently in France, 97% of the cases for which sexual orientation is informed occurred in men having sex with men”, specified Public Health France.
