SANTE-CORONAVIRUS-FRANCE-BALANCE SHEET: Coronavirus: More than 23,000 new cases and 649 new deaths in France
PARIS (Reuters) – France recorded 23,292 new cases of contamination with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus on Friday in 24 hours and 649 additional deaths in hospitals and nursing homes, figures published by health authorities show.
The number of people infected with the new coronavirus now exceeds 3 million, with 3,011,257 cases since the start of the epidemic in February 2020.
French hospitals have counted 319 new deaths due to COVID-19 in 24 hours, to which are added 330 deaths in nursing homes, whose data are updated twice a week.
The toll of the epidemic thus stands at 72,647 dead.
The number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 infection in France stands at 25,908, 173 more than the day before, and the number of patients treated in intensive care units at 2,912, or 36 more.
In total, 963,139 people had been vaccinated Friday in France since the start of the campaign at the end of December, nearly 140,000 more than Thursday, several media said, citing figures from health authorities.
