Dhe number of new infections with the coronavirus recorded daily in Germany has reached a new record: the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 23,648 new infections within one day on Friday morning, citing information from the health authorities.
On Friday a week ago, the previous peak was reached with 23,542 recorded cases. Compared to Thursday, the number of newly reported cases rose by a good 1,000 on Friday.
260 more deaths
The number of deaths reportedly rose by 260 to a total of 13,630. According to the latest figures from the RKI, a total of 879,564 infections have been registered in Germany since the start of the pandemic. The number of people recovered was around 579,100.

According to the RKI situation report from Thursday evening, the so-called seven-day R was 0.99 (previous day: 0.95). This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 99 more people. The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
