06:01 am | After federal and state advice on Corona: State government wants to adopt new test strategy
After the deliberations of the federal and state governments on Monday, Saxony-Anhalt’s state government wants to discuss the results today – and adopt a new test strategy to protect people who are particularly at risk. Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) will also meet with his cabinet colleagues on Tuesday. Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) then wants to inform about the updated test strategy after the cabinet meeting in the afternoon. The focus: Hospitals and old people’s homes should increasingly use rapid tests on patients and staff. A spokeswoman announced that visitors to such facilities in regions with high case numbers should then also be tested.
So far, the country has ordered half a million rapid tests to equip hospitals and nursing homes.
05:58 am | Results of the federal-state meeting: Appeals to further restrict contacts
Previously, there had been an hour-long video conference yesterday between Chancellor Angela Merkel and the country leaders, and it had already become clear in advance that it could be difficult to reach a new agreement. At least when it comes to the question of whether there should be even stricter contact restrictions. A draft resolution was probably up for debate, in which even stricter rules should already be proposed by the federal government. But the majority of the states were now against making “interim legal changes” before the current regulations expired at the end of November, said Merkel after the deliberations on Monday evening.
