Morocco and Spain want to strengthen their partnership in the energy sector

(Ecofin Agency) – The Moroccan and Spanish authorities have held discussions on the consolidation of their collaboration in the energy sector. The effective implementation of this strategic partnership will materialize in the coming weeks with the organization of an important meeting.

On November 12, Aziz Rabbah, Moroccan Minister of Energy and Teresa Ribera Rodriguez, Minister of Ecological Transition, discussed by video conference the strengthening of their partnership in the energy sector.

Various issues were thus addressed, including a new boost to be given to bidirectional natural gas flows and the implementation of the memorandum of understanding linked to the development of a third Morocco-Spain electricity interconnection.

The possibilities for cooperation in the field of hydrogen as well as the implementation of the joint declaration of the roadmap on electricity trade based on renewable energies, signed on the sidelines of COP22 in November 2016, have have also been mentioned.

The two authorities also called for an increase in the activities of the working group made up of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and the Spanish company Red Electrica.
