“Even though I’ve told the story many times, it still sounds very surreal. Five years ago, when I had to fill in for a colleague at work, I was so bored that I downloaded a dating app to pass the time with a little chat. I didn’t really expect anything.
So I sat there and swiped left, swiped right, then left again – it went really long like that. Then I got stuck on a picture. My first thought: Who is uploading something like that? What I saw: An unshaven man with headphones – a picture book nerd. He really looked awful. A clear left swipe case.
Had it not been for fate. Because something distracted me so much that I accidentally swiped to the right. Match. Oh no, I just thought. Half an hour later, a message from my new match popped up: ‹Hey›. Just like that. I replied: ‘Hey too’.
I really didn’t want to write to him, but I had nothing better to do. We wrote back and forth a bit, switched to Whatsapp and suddenly it was taken for granted that we would write all the time. When I saw more photos of him, I liked him a bit better.
This went on for three or four days until we spoke on the phone on a Friday evening. For ten hours. Anything, really anything. That’s where the spark jumped over, I knew there was something there. We met in person on Sunday. It was love at first sight. Suddenly I found him really attractive and handsome.
I remember that he was very nervous, but I found that cute. At first there was this awkward silence, but later that also subsided. We spent the afternoon and then the evening together and we’ve been inseparable ever since. It just fitted right away.

It wasn’t easy for us at first because we lived a little further apart, but after a year we solved the problem by moving in together. Since then we have had a very happy and harmonious relationship.
Three years later I got pregnant and before the baby was born we got married, for the sake of simplicity. I suggested it and he was like, come on, let’s get married. But I’m still waiting for a real application. He’s not into romance, but that doesn’t matter, I’m cheesy for both of us.
A few days ago our second daughter was born and I couldn’t be happier. The fact that we matched in the app back then was fate and coincidence at the same time, and that makes it even more beautiful and special. It’s the best thing that has ever happened to us and now, thanks to our small family, it’s also the greatest luck.”
