Myanmar excludes military chief from ASEAN summit

Kuala Lumpur: Myanmar military leader General Min Aung-hyling has been excluded from the ASEAN summit. The decision was taken at a meeting of foreign ministers of ASEAN countries on Friday. The meeting rejected the request of the military government to send their representative to the conference from October 26 to 28.

In August, Brunei appointed Foreign Minister Eriwan Youssef as mediator in resolving Myanmar’s problems. However, Myanmar has rejected Yusuf’s request to meet with leaders, including Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been imprisoned by the military. With this, the foreign ministers of the ASEAN bloc took a tough stand.
