NASA reveals fascinating image of sunset in orbit

Sunsets are not only beautiful to look at on earth. Also on the International Space Station astronauts can observe this natural spectacle again and again.

In June became a Sunset in orbit captured from the ISS. That “image of the day” NASA originated 415 kilometers above Brazil (here in original resolution).

16 sunrises and sunsets daily

The sun seems to sink into a black nothingness. the earth atmosphere is just as easy dark blue shimmer recognizable. The cloud cover is illuminated by the sun and shines brightly.

At 93 minutes the ISS orbits the earth. This means that the astronauts on the space station within 24 hours 16 such spectacular sunrises and sunsets can watch. What a sunrise looks like has ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst on his last mission on twitter shown:
