Nearly burst capacity of hospitals in the Czech Republic

– We can in no way maintain the current standards in the health care system, and there are also postponements of non-corona-related health treatment. The system as a whole is approaching the breaking point, says the country’s Minister of Health Vladimir Cerny.

On Tuesday, the country registered over 1,300 new corona patients in the intensive care units, including 660 on a respirator. Many also receive life-prolonging treatment, according to Cerny.

According to figures from Johns Hopkins University, the Czech Republic is currently at the top of the list of countries with the greatest infection pressure in the world in the last 14 days.

The EU country has so far registered over 1.16 million corona cases, and close to 20,000 corona-related deaths. The authorities will ask neighboring Germany for help in caring for some of the patients.
