Netflix has increased its prices in the United States and it’s not good news for us

Indeed, the world leader in streaming has announced that it has adapted its prices in the United States. And each increase across the Atlantic has always been followed by the same policy elsewhere in the world in the weeks or months that followed.

American consumers again pay one to two dollars more depending on their subscription plan. The Basic goes from $8.99 to $9.99, the Standard from $13.99 to $15.49 and the Premium from $17.99 to $19.99. These new prices have been in effect since Friday 14 January.

Netflix justified the adaptation of its pricing policy: “We are updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options”, said a spokesperson for the platform. For 2021, the latter had announced to invest 17 billion dollars for its programs. The figure for 2022 has not yet been revealed but it is no secret that competition is now very strong in the sector. The incumbent operator has to deal with the meteoric rise of Disney +, but also with the development of big players like Amazon, or Apple. And the arrival of new entrants. “We understand that people have more choices when it comes to entertainment than ever before. We are committed to providing our subscribers with an even better experience”, says the company in an article published on Deadline.
