New food in Business Class: Austrian Airlines serves more Austria

Lufthansa and Swiss already rely on regional specialties on board. Austrian is now making food even more Austrian.

The group sisters have shown the way: after “Swiss Taste of Switzerland” at Swiss and “Tasting Heimat” at Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines is now also bringing more local color to the food: “Tastyly Austrian” is the name of the new culinary concept, which is now available in Business Class on short and medium-haul routes, such as the portal Frankfurtflyer first reported.

Together with its partner Do&Co, Austrian has created menus that offer international cuisine on departure from Vienna and Austrian delicacies on the way back. On longer flights of three hours or more, you can look forward to a two-course meal – for example with Wiener Tafelspitz or traditional Schlutzkrapfen, a regional specialty from Tyrol. The menu is rounded off with an apple strudel, for example.

hand pastries

On flights of 80 minutes to three hours flight time, there is also a warm meal – such as beef goulash or salmon fillet, on shorter flights of 50 to 80 minutes cold meals are served – for example with a poke bowl or leg of ham. Extremely original and innovative are the ultra-short routes of up to 50 minutes: Here, a “hand-made pastry” is distributed – a snack that you can also take with you thanks to special packaging.

The entire group is also planning a quality offensive. This was announced by Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr on Thursday (August 4) when the quarterly figures were presented. Recently, the own demands and those of the guests have not been met in some cases. The airline group wants to change that. Not just in business class.

31,000 new seats

To this end, “a broad product and quality initiative” will be launched in the autumn, announced Spohr. The CEO did not initially reveal any details – except for one thing. The initiative will result in the seats being renewed in all classes at Lufthansa and Swiss from 2023.
