New size change, FIFA changes play-off format

Fifa has announced an important change for the intercontinental play-offs which will determine the last qualified for the 2022 World Cup.

November 26 is an important date on the way to Global 2022. It is on this day that the posters of the dams of the Europe Zone will be known, with Italy and Portugal in the spotlight, as well as those of the Africa Zone, which will concern the cream of the continent (Algeria, Egypt, Cameroon, Morocco, Senegal, etc).

In the process, Fifa will conduct a second draw, that of the intercontinental dams. It will be necessary to determine who faces who between the fifth of the AmSud Zone, the fourth of the Concacaf, the fifth of the Asia Zone and the representative of Oceania.

Fifa has announced a change for these intercontinental dams. Instead of taking place back and forth, they will be played in a dry match, on neutral ground. The reason ? The calendar upset by the health crisis. Due to the delay in the qualifiers, the fifth in the Asia Zone will not be known until June. This leaves only one date to compete in the intercontinental dams.

The draw for the World Cup is scheduled for April 1. At this date, we will therefore only know 30 qualified out of the 32 teams that will participate in the World Cup in Qatar.
