The National Hurricane Center (NHC) of the United States issued a hurricane and storm surge warning for New York and the New England coast on Friday As Storm Henri grows stronger in the Atlantic and is about to become a cyclone.
NHC meteorologists detailed that there is a hurricane warning for the south coast of Long Island (New York), from Fire Island Inlet until Montauk Point, as well as for the north coast, from Port Jefferson Harbor until Montauk Point.
Also since New Haven (Connecticut) to the west of Watch Hill (Rhode Island), as detailed in the most recent NHC bulletin.
There is also a storm surge warning on the south coast of Long Island, from Mastic Beach until Montauk Point, and on the north coast, from Oyster Bay until Montauk Point, and from Greenwich (Connecticut) a Chatham (Massachusetts), included Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard y Block Island.

Henri is about to become a hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour, in its advance towards the coast of New England.
It is located about 470 kilometers south-southeast of Cabo Hatteras, in North Carolina, and 1,115 kilometers from Montauk Point, In New York.
The phenomenon is moving towards the north-northwest with a translation speed of 11 kilometers per hour and, according to the most recent NHC forecast, it is expected to “make landfall in southern New England on Saturday afternoon.”
Meteorologists expect Henri to strengthen in the next 48 hours and become a hurricane on Saturday, when I go to hit the New England shoreline.

Besides the scourge of the wind and the rain, areas under notice by Henri may experience a storm surge, with up to 1.50 meters of rise in sea level in some points of the coast.
The US National Oceans and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasts that the current Atlantic hurricane season will have above-average activity.
So far this year, two hurricanes have formed in the Atlantic basin, Grace and Elsa, this second at the beginning of last July.
THE PREPARATIONS

The Governor of Massachusetts, Charlie Baker asked walkers to leave Cape Cod on Friday before Henri’s arrival, and those who had planned to vacation in the place to postpone their plans.
“We don’t want people to get stuck in road traffic on Cape Cod bridges. when the storm is deploying its full force on Sunday, “he added.
MEXICO ALSO ON ALERT
The Government of Mexico launched this Friday a call for population to be “very aware” of the next re-entry of Hurricane Grace, that the day before he left the Yucatan peninsula and that he will arrive in Veracruz in the next few hours.
“We ask the entire population to be very vigilant. Follow the recommendations of Civil Protection and I safeguarded in their homes”Said the national coordinator of Civil Protection, Laura Velázquez, during the morning press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Hurricane Grace quickly gained strength this Friday night to become a powerful Category 3 hurricane before making landfall again in Mexico where flood and avalanche alerts were activated.
