Newcomers, changers, newcomers: The new Viennese city government

The Penzing district party leader belongs to the left wing of the party and is considered a close confidante of Andreas Schieder, who competed in the 2018 duel for the party chairmanship against Michael Ludwig. Czernohorszky was allowed to remain on the government team, probably to shake hands with the defeated camp.

Experiences for his new department, environment and climate, he was able to gain as deputy Gathering Chairman of the Environment Committee.

He stands out from the SPÖ government team with his youthful demeanor. The sneakers worn with a suit have almost become a trademark. He uses social media extensively to target younger voters.

Ulli Sima: The “new one” in Hebein’s department

It was by no means her wish to take over the transport and urban planning department, according to Ulli Sima. After 16 years as an environmental councilor (no current member of the government has been in office longer than she), the 52-year-old native of Carinthia is now facing completely new tasks.

In essence, she takes over the ministry of the Greens Birgit Hebein and is supposed to prove there that you don’t need Greens in Vienna to make green politics. That fits very well because she liked to compete with Hebein even before the election on climate policy.
