The Ministry of the Interior renewed the reminder of the punishment for perpetrators of the crime of harassment, and the cases in which the punishment should be increased.
The ministry clarified that the crime of harassment is any statement, act or gesture with a sexual connotation issued by a person towards any other person, that touches his body or honor or infringes his modesty by any means, including modern technology.
It indicated that the perpetrator of the offense of harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding On Two years, and a fine of no more than 100,000 riyals or one of these two penalties, indicating that the penalty is increased by imprisonment for a period not exceeding 5 years and a fine of not more than 300,000 riyals in the event of a repeat of the act.
She pointed out that the severity of the penalty will also be intensified in several cases, including if the victim is a child, if the victim has special needs, if the perpetrator has direct or indirect authority over the victim, and if the crime occurred in any of the crises, disasters or accidents.
And she stressed that the cases also include if the offender or the victim is of the same sex, if the crime occurred in a place of work, study, shelter or care, and if the victim was asleep or unconscious, or the like.
